Can you draw my blood in your office? Yes. We are able to run certain tests in our office immediately and other tests are sent to an outside lab to be completed. What lab do you use? We send the blood or specimens to either Quest or Labcorp. This is usually dictated by your insurance company. When do you need to draw my blood? It depends on whether you have any medical problems. We routinely draw blood for a physical exam and routine appointments for patients on cholesterol, thyroid and diabetes medication. What do I do for fasting bloodwork? Do not eat for 6 hours prior to having your blood drawn. You may drink all the water or black coffee (no sweetener or cream) that you would like. If you tend to get shaky when fasting, please bring a snack that you can eat after your blood is drawn. What if I forget to fast? Let us know at your visit. You may have to return another day to have your blood drawn. My appointment is in the afternoon and I don't want to fast for that long. Can I have my blood drawn in the morning? We only draw your blood at the time of your appointment. If you have an afternoon appointment and would like your blood drawn in the morning, let us know and we can fill out an order for you to take to the lab to have it drawn. Quest Labs is right around the corner in our office building. Labcorp is across the street in the Physicians Center at Emory Eastside Hospital. Can I get my labs drawn early so my results are back when I come in for my appointment? Yes. Call us and we will fill out an order for you to have your blood drawn at Quest or Labcorp. We usually recommend that you have your blood drawn a week before your appointment so the lab will have ample time to furnish us with the results. Do you call me with my lab results? If your labs are all within normal limits, we will send you a letter confirming this. It will list your values on the more common tests, such as cholesterol. It will also advise you when your next follow up visit should be. You should receive it within 10 days of your appointment. If any of your results are not in the normal limits, or you need to make changes with your medications, we will call you directly as soon as we get your labwork back. In case I have questions, what is the phone number for Quest or Labcorp? For billing questions for labwork, please direct your calls to the phone number on the statement from the lab company. For other questions, you can call the local office of Quest at (770) 934-9200 and Labcorp at (770) 939-4811.
